Depending upon where you are participating in NURS 212 clinical, utilize the appropriate guideline to discuss/answer the following:
Discuss examples of health care incidents on your unit that relate to one of the current National Patient Safety Goals. Explain whether the goal was met or not met according to the detailed requirements of Joint Commission. Discuss factors in the environment that can create a barrier to patient safety. What actions have you observed on your unit that create a culture of safety? How are you participating in the quality initiatives? Post a response to 2 classmates including additional ideas to reduce barriers to patient safety.

3. Select any two of the “Ten Rules to Guide Quality Improvement”(IOM,2001/ Finkelman and Kenner, p 381). Share a specific example to show how these can be applied to a particular problem that is interfering with quality care on your clinical unit. Describe a corrective action plan to improve patient outcomes for this problem? Share your own ideas by responding to two other student’s problems, using some of the other “Rules to Guide Quality Improvement.”
